Folding beds, what are they really?

You see them more and more often, folding beds, but what are folding beds really? There are two different types. You can fold up a foldaway bed against the wall or you can fold up a foldaway bed in a wardrobe. So it's actually a bed hidden in a wardrobe! In the latter case, the bed is neatly hidden and you won't see it at all during the day. Space-saving and neat! Option one is also perfect for saving space, but you can still see the mattress in the room from the side! So saving space is a big advantage of a folding bed, but what are some other advantages of a folding bed and what are its features? We will explain everything to you in this blog, so you know exactly where you stand when you go to buy a folding bed!

Many people think it is very tough to have a folding bed to fold out! After all, you don't lift a bed just like that! Fortunately, this is a myth, because folding beds are not at all heavy to unfold. This is because folding out is supported by a system of gas springs. These gas springs ensure that the bed has to be pulled out a little and then slowly comes down on its own. A second myth is that folding beds are not suitable for every night. We are often asked whether you should spend every night on a folding bed can sleep on, but we can dispel this myth too. We can confidently say that our folding beds are strong enough to sleep on every night. We set high standards for the quality of our products and find it important that these beds can be folded and unfolded without any problems every day. We are aware that buying a folding bed is a big purchase and we therefore think it is only logical that you should be able to enjoy it for many years without any problems.

The most important question of course; can you sleep well on folding beds! The answer is yes, definitely! As answered above, our foldaway beds are suitable for sleeping on every night, so of course it is also important that you can sleep well on them! All folding beds in our range always have a slatted base for support. You then choose a suitable mattress. We have a nice collection of mattresses suitable for use in a folding bed. In doing so, we recommend, as specialist, you too again to drop by cosily in the showroom, so you can try them out for yourself.

Not all mattresses are suitable for a folding bed, so that is why it is good to always get advice first. For one thing, a mattress should not be too thick. If the mattress is too thick, the folding bed is likely to fail to close. Our thickest mattresses, which we have in our collection, are 22 cm thick. However, the choice often comes down to an 18 cm or 16 cm thick mattress. If the folding bed has a rather shallow cupboard and the wish is there to fold the bed with duvet and all, we may recommend a mattress 16 cm thick, for example. We also have a choice of high-quality mattresses 16 cm thick. Think, for instance, of a pleasant cold foam mattress.
Secondly, not all mattresses, in terms of filling, suitable for use in a folding bed. Not every mattress is suitable for staying upright. Some fillings sink down due to gravity. Memory foam / Tempur / memory foam and latex mattresses are not suitable for use in folding beds. These fillings will slowly collapse. A cold foam, pocket spring, innerspring or polyether mattress is suitable for folding beds. The mattresses can be ordered in all desired sizes. Our mattresses are custom-made for you. Also, most mattresses for a foldaway bed can be chosen in firm or supple versions.
